Introduction
I am an Irish artist working in Ireland and previously Australia, merging elements of Fine Art and Graphic Design to create bold, unapologetic, and striking works. My practice is deeply rooted in colour theory, exploring the interplay between colour, form, and structure to develop a visual language that is both dynamic and open to interpretation. I believe art is for everyone, and my work invites viewers to engage with colour in a way that is both intuitive and thought-provoking.
Artistic approach & influences
My process is informed by a meticulous balance of structure and spontaneity, drawing influence from colour-field, Op Art, and geometric abstraction, from these art movements, acclaimed artists such as Bridget Riley, Robert Owen, Frank Stella, Jack Youngerman, Ellsworth Kelly, and Ivan Serpa play a significant role in shaping my visual language. I describe my work as "Pop-Abstract," reflecting the boldness of my palette and the energetic quality of my compositions.
I achieve this through a rigorous process that blends digital techniques with hand-drawn concepts. Layering and refining multiple designs, then splicing them together until I find a balance that aligns with my artistic vision. This process often involves adding or subtracting elements, and adjusting both form and colour to create a final composition that feels precise yet expressive.
Concept & meaning
My work is an ongoing exploration of how colour and form interact to create rhythm, movement, and emotion. I am particularly interested in the idea that a visual language can never be truly "right" or "wrong," and I use this philosophy to challenge traditional notions of perfection in art. By emphasising precision while allowing for organic interplay, my compositions evoke a sense of harmony that is both calculated and instinctive.
Conclusion
I strive to create art that engages the viewer on a sensory level, evoking a sense of playfulness and curiosity. Having exhibited my work across Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia, I continue to push the boundaries of my practice through experimentation with new materials and formats. Whether through acrylic paintings, large-scale murals, or print-based works, my objective remains the same, to develop art that is visually compelling, conceptually engaging, and accessible to all.
